Now that I’ve started Coffee Club, I look for new coffees to try whenever I’m out and about. Recently, I was at Trader Joe’s and saw they had a brew-in-the-bag coffee.
Naturally, my curiosity was piqued and I had to try it. Check out my thoughts on this unusual coffee.
Brewing the Coffee
The idea behind Trader Joe’s brew-in-the-bag coffee is that it’s portable and easy to brew. Unzip the top, add hot water, seal the bag up, and let it sit for four minutes. That’s it!
Trader Joe’s touts this as a French press style coffee, but I’ve never had French press coffee before. I’ll take their word for it.
High Quality Coffee
Besides being curious about this little bag of coffee, I was nervous. Brewing coffee in a bag didn’t seem like it would yield a great result, and I’ve tried other Trader Joe’s coffees that I haven’t liked. Still, I managed to keep an open mind and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this coffee.
For the convenience of the bag, it’s great tasting coffee. It’s not as smooth as other brews I’ve had, but it is yummy! I brewed this coffee with 10oz of hot water and added some non-dairy vanilla creamer.
While the bag is cute and the coffee is decent, I wouldn’t recommend brewing this as your everyday coffee. Instead, you might keep these bags at work or in your backpack when you go camping. At $2 per bag for 10oz of coffee, it’s not the best deal but it is cheaper than Starbucks or Dunkin!
And on that note…
Whenever I’m shooting photos for the blog, Riker and/or Iggy are running around trying to get into everything. This time, I was able to capture the priceless photo below. I think Riker approves of the coffee! (P.S. never give your cats coffee, it’s really bad for them. like, it’ll damage their hearts and brains if you give them caffeine.)
